REVIEWS OF LATEST MOVIES
Producer: Laxman Director: Tamilvaanan Cast: S.J.Suryah, Nayantara,
Vivek Music: Yuvan Shankar Raja
S.J.Suryah is back as a hero with ‘Kalvanin Kathali’. This love story has lots of humour
and his fans would surely love it. Debutant director Tamilvaanan seems to follow Suryah’s footsteps, as this film has
lots of glamour, punch lines, good song sequences with love theme and all that Suryah used to rely on. Scriptwriter Prasanna
Kumar has pumped in extra masala and double meaning talks to draw the youth audience to the theatres.
Satya (Suryah) has the money and wealth, as he is the only son of a rich businessman (Pyramid Natarajan). He is also a
womanizer, who woos pretty girls and leaves them behind after having good time. Then he comes across Haritha (Nayantara) and
starts following her. He has a group of friends (Vivek, Ganja Karuppu and others) to help him out in his endeavor, as he is
a wealthy man.
Satya finally wins the love of conservative Haritha following a few incidents. But he wants to leave her, as he can’t
have sexual relationship with her. On the other hand, Harita tells her parents about Satya and they are ready for their alliance.
Then Satya is forced to confess his wrong intention on her. The rest of the film is on how she changes Satya’s life.
Director Tamilvaanan’s style of storytelling is good, as the flashbacks give a clear idea
of the film. Suryah has improved a lot as an actor though a little patch up is still needed. Nayantara’s performance
is fine but she looks too glamorous as a middle class girl. Suryah’s make-up in the song sequences is a little too much
and his methods to trap Nayantara look hilarious. Moreover, Vivek’s behavior sometimes makes you feel funny. The film
also slows down its pace in the second half after a racy start.
The film is technically fine. Yuvan has composed some good numbers especially "Eno Kangal..." and "Uyir Piriyum Valiya...".
His background music is also one of the highlights of the film. Ekambaram has handled the camera really well. On
the whole, debutante director Tamilvaanan has done a good job. He has succeeded in delivering the right goods to the right
people, that is the youth audience. He has a bright future ahead. |

Tamil Movie Review : SANDAKKOZHI |
|
Cast: Vishal, Meera Jasmine, Raj Kiran, Lal Music Director: Yuvan Shankar Raja Cinematography:
Jeeva, Nirav Shah Dialogues: Ramakrishna Producer: Vikram Krishna Director: Lingusamy
| |
Sandakkozhi It is the usual story of an unlikely hero rising up against the feudal villains. But, what lends credibility to Sandakkozhi
is the manner in which the revengeful attitude is developed. The screenplay amply showcases sequences to bring out the transition
from a suave urbanite to a rampaging fighter. The contrast is striking. |
The story kicks off from Chennai. Balu (Vishal)
and Karthik are college mates and decide to spend their vacation at Theni, the latter’s native village. Karthik has
a bubbly sister Hema(Meera Jasmine) who is always up to some or the other pranks. Balu falls in love with Hema. Enter the
menacing village headman, Kasi(Lal). Balu crosses his path on a chance instance and a hurt Kasi decides to take his revenge
on Balu. Kasi starts troubling Karthik’s family. Besides, he also comes to know about Balu’s family. Balu is the
son of Durai(Rajkiran), the head man of another village near Madurai. Kasi attempts a showdown with Durai but finds little
success. Tired of Lal’s activities, Balu enters the ring and finishes him off.

It is the second movie in Tamil for the dark and handsome hero, Vishal. It is a complete performance from him whether as
the shy city lad or the searing youngster out to destroy the villain. Meera Jasmine has proved her mettle as the effervescent
village girl and her innocent eyes and wide smile are a big plus for the character of Hema.
The film’s greatest plus point is undoubtedly Rajkiran who has come up with a stellar portrayal as the dignified
head man who can roll up his sleeves and cut down the villains like banana trees. Lal, the Malayalam producer has also done
a good job and his performance in the climax scene is superb. Full marks to Stunt master Kanal Kannan for the breathtaking
sequence.Camera work by Jeeva and Nirav Shah has captured the locations beautifully and Yuvan’s music has played a complementary
role to perfection. The background score and rerecording are excellent. Lingusamy, who gave successive hits with movies like
Anandham and Run had struck a lean patch after the failure of Ji last year. He has bounced back in style with Sandakkozhi.
The second half of the film more than makes up for the uneven tempo in the first half. Lingusamy has given a total commercial
entertainer.
